Santi Clause...

Okay so in light of posting that article on Why We Don't Celebrate Halloween...I thought that I might also post on how we will NOT be teaching Noah about Santa Clause or the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy...
So...you teach your child that there is Santa Clause and He knows whether you have been bad or good and he brings you gifts based on these things...well I have a problem with this on soooooooo many levels!

1.) When your child learns that SC, EB and TF doesn't exist...he might just start to question whether God and Jesus exist...after all children trust their parents to tell them the truth and while these little 'made up stories' are just that...unfortunately children are not of the mind to be able to distinguish between truth and made up stories. Before you roll your eyes at this and tell me that it is unlikely that a child will think this way...know that I personally know two instances in which this occurred.

2.) Who is the one that you want your child knowing as the one who knows all and brings good good gifts? Santa or God?

3.) If you get these 'good gifts' based on if you were good and bad, doesn't that set up a model for 'salvation by works?' I truly believe it does.

4.) God wants us to focus on the truth...and while fantasy may have its place in our lives by way of imagination, ultimately if it can affect an important doctrine (such as Salvation by faith in Christ as opposed to works), I believe the only thing that is reasonable is truth.

There is so much more I could say on the topic, but I am done for now. =o) PLUS...number one alone is enough for me. If I am teaching my child anything that could even create one ounce of doubt that God exists or that Jesus is his savior, then I do not love my child. And those who know me know...I LOVE my Noah...and I never ever want him to question whether Jesus is his Savior based on something I teach him. He may question it one day on his own...but let's pray not! =o)
